Over 600 Authors expected to Participate in on-going the 36th Guadalajara International Book Fair

The Guadalajara International Book Fair, which had a virtual edition in 2020 has now returned. The book fair kicked off on November 26, 2022, and will go up till December 4 with strength and momentum.

The FIL will reaffirm its status as the most significant literary, publishing, and cultural gathering

For an estimated audience of 800,000 people, the general program, which was unveiled on November 26, at a press conference, includes about 3,000 literary, academic, scientific, artistic, professional, children's, and youth activities in addition to the presence of Sharjah and Arab culture as Guests of Honor.

Ricardo Villanueva Lomel, general rector of UDG, Ral Padilla López, president of the Guadalajara International Book Fair, Marisol Schulz Manaut, general director of the Fair, and Karla Planter Pérez, rector of the Centro Universitario de Los Altos and executive coordinator of FIL Pensamie, attended the press conference to announce the general program of activities 2022, held this morning at the Enrique Ahmed Al Ameri, the chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority, and Khoula Al Mujaini, the institution's director of fairs and festivals, participated in a video presentation on behalf of Sharjah and Arab culture as Guests of Honor.

Mircea Cărtărescu, a poet and narrator from Romania, will receive the FIL Prize for Literature in Romance Languages in 2022, along with other honors and awards. Irene Vallejo and Alberto Manguel, two distinguished authors and supporters of reading and books, will open the Carlos Fuentes Literary Program and receive the medal honoring the Where the Air is Clear author from Silvia Lemus.

Ral Figueroa Sarti, a journalist from Guatemala, will get the Publishing Merit Award, and Pedro Valtierra, a photographer, will receive the Fernando Bentez National Cultural Journalism Award.

The Tribute to the Librarian will be given to Rosala del Carmen Macas Rodrguez, while the Tribute to the Bibliophile José Luis Martnez will be given to Alberto Manguel. The Guadalajara-based cartoonist Trinidad Camacho, also known as Trino, will receive the Catrina, and Felipe Leal, a renowned architect from Mexico, will receive the ArpaFIL Tribute. The tribute table "Hugo Hiriart in his 80s" will be held as part of the literary program, and the Mexican playwright will be joined by Angeles Mastretta, Antonio Castro, and Martn Solares.

The largest publishing trade show in Ibero-America, FIL Guadalajara is anticipated to draw more than 12,000 professionals from 43 countries to this year's edition, which will also mark the return of the Rights Program with 71 tables.

Over 43,000 square meters of exhibit area, the publishing offer spans approximately 400,000 titles from 1,500 publishers in 34 different nations. The International Forum of Publishers and Book Professionals, whose inaugural conference will be delivered by Kevin Fitzgerald, current director of Digital Outreach of the World Intellectual Property Organization, with the participation of Bodour Al Qasimi, president of the International Publishers Association, as well as the International Forum on Editorial Design, the International Bookseller, and more were among the 122 professionalization and training activities that were scheduled.
